BANGTAN BOYS (방탄소년단/防彈少年團/BTS) is 7 member hip hop group under Big Hit Entertainment formed by Jin, SUGA, J-HOPE, Jungkook, Jimin, Rap Monster and V.
The meaning of their group name is “to block out the world’s bullets”, and their fanclub name A.R.M.Y stands for “Adorable Representative M.C for Youth”.
The group is known for having talented members, capable of composing, writing and performing their own music. Rap Monster, J-HOPE and SUGA in particular, have a part in the making of Bangtan’s albums since their debut album, 2Cool 4Skool. Members scouted since 2010. Before joining BTS, J-HOPE was active in the underground dance scene, participating in various battles and competitions. Meanwhile, Rap Monster and SUGA were active in the underground rap scene. Before becoming trainees, they focused on their respective interests (dance, singing, acting, rapping), where they eventually passed auditions and ended up in BTS. This 7 member group is expected to lead the hip hop boom with their outstanding rapping and dancing skills.
Half a year prior to debut, the boys began building their name and creating a relationship with fans through twitter, video blogs, fancafe posts, and by releasing various song covers via YouTube and SoundCloud.
After their debut on 13 June 2013, they starred in their own variety show "Rookie King Channel Bangtan" on SBS-MTV which premiered on 3 September. The show is based on a fake broadcast station, 'Channel Bangtan', which the members will parody variety shows including 'VJ Special Forces' and 'Master Chef Korea'. The boys also took on special roles such as announcers, athletes, CF models, and many more with their hilarious role playing.
Within the same year BTS attended and performed at various award shows, obtaining their first award at the MelOn Music Award - New Artist of the Year - and many other Rookie of the Year awards.
BTS also held their concert 493 days after their debut, breaking the record of H.O.T (519 days) and TVXQ (743 days) as a group who succeed to hold a concert.
On 5 May 2015, BTS took home their first-ever Music Show trophy on "The Show" with I NEED U despite facing strong competition from Block B and EXID. With I NEED U, BTS also took home trophies from Mnet's M!Countdown, KBS' Music Bank and MBC's Show Champion on 7 May 2015, 8 May 2015 and 13 May 2015 respectively.
The following year on 12 May, the boys took home their first trophy for their new track FIRE on Mnet's M! Countdown right after having their comeback stage. They then took home more trophies right after their comeback stage on KBS's Music Bank and SBS's Inkigayo on 13 May 2016 and 15 May 2016 respectively.
On 13 May 2016, the day after their 1st win for FIRE, Twitter launched the first-ever K-pop emoji featuring BTS. The emoji features an image of BTS's bulletproof vest logo, it appears when the hashtags #BTS and #방탄소년단 are being used. BTS was chosen by Twitter to launch the first ever K-pop emoji due to their global popularity on the social media site. The members use their official Twitter account to communicate with A.R.M.Ys around the world and already have more than 2.2 million followers. A selfie posted on the account at the 2015 Melon Music Awards was viewed over 2.9 million times and was crowned the "Golden Tweet" in South Korea. 5 countries with the most amounts of tweets using the BTS emoji will get their own special thank-you video messages from BTS.
